Track your saltwater catch information for personal fishing history and assist fisheries managment

AnglerCatch is a smartphone and tablet software application that helps anglers provide more accurate data to fisheries managers. Our hope is that this will allow fisheries managers to grow fisheries so there are more fish in the water for all of us to catch, eat and/or release.

Funding for AnglerCatch

The Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association, in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and Harbor Light Software, have been awarded a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant, with matching funds provided by recreational saltwater fishing revenues, to develop an electronic fishery status monitoring program using data provided by volunteer recreational anglers.

The data collected will include catch and effort statistics and biological information, all of which is reported via a free app on the anglerís smartphone or tablet.

The goal of this pilot program is to provide an additional source of accurate, up to date data on the status of the Rhode Island recreational fishery that sea bass could be incorporated into stock assesments, as well as be utilized to guide management decisions pertaining to recreational harvest limits and fishing seasons.

We also expect the app to have many angler-friendly features to enhance your fishing pleasure and success.

The data would also be shared with RI DEM Marine Fisheries and other fisheries managers to fill in data gaps for certain species/fishing modes, provide alternate metric for managers to compare with catch estimates generated by NOAA Fisheries MRIP, and to help refine recreational fishing regulations and allocations.
