| The Angler Of The Year is determined by the total number of points earned during the tournament season. Points are awarded as follows: |
| 1st place = 3 points 2nd place = 2 points 3rd place = 1 point
Angler of the Year and Junior Angler of the Year candidates must also exhibit the following qualities:
• Good Sportsmanship • Versatility • Consistency • Ability to catch quality fish PLUS • Earn at least one tournament point from both boat and shore • Earn at least one tournament point for four different species of fish during the tournament season |
| In addition, 5 additional points are awarded for an entry into the RISAA Angler Hall of Fame. |
