Surf Fishing The Islands
Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Cuttyhunk and Nantucket

with
Steve McKenna
Steve McKenna
Steve McKenna is undisputedly, one of Rhode Island's best surfcasters.
McKenna
Steve has been surfcasting since the early 1970's.  As a youngster he used to freshwater fish, but living in one of the best striper states he quickly gave it up in favor of saltwater.

His fishing territory includes Cape Cod, Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island's South Shore and Block Island.

He won 1st place in the Shore Division of the RISAA 2007 Spring Striped Bass Tournament, and is a 5-time winner of the Narragansett Pier Sportfishing Association's Jerry Sylvester Trophy for the largest surf-caught striped bass.

He is also a writer for On The Water magazine

Aquaculture in Rhode Island
Do you know what it is?  Where it is?
How many are there in the Bay and Ponds?
with
David Beutel
Rhode Island Sea Grant
Dave Beutel
The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Managment Council has the authority to grant "leases" of public waters to private aquaculture companies.  Before each grant occurs, a lengthy application process must occur.

Last year, as aquaculture grew and the number of leases increased, RISAA and other groups, including the R.I. Marine Fisheries Council, expressed concern about the lack of a state plan to limit the number of aquaculture leases.  This prompted the formation of a CRMC aquaculture committee that would formulat such a plan.

Dave will give a brief overview of the status of aquaculture in Rhode Island.  He will address concerns about the rights of the aquaculturist and the rights of the public, and explain how the lease process works.

Everyone is welcome!

Non-members are requested to make a $10 donation to the RISAA
