RISAA members are urged to sign up to participate in the RISAA’s
10th Annual Take-A-Kid Fishing Day. Each year this
event expands and we’re hoping that 2006 will be even bigger and
better! In 2006 we had 54 MEMBER BOATS and 200 VOLUNTEERS who participated! Over 250 children from the various Boys and Girls Clubs, Scouting groups, neighborhood groups, Providence Recreational Department and several schools were treated to a great morning of fishing on the bay, followed by a great cookout of hot dogs and burgers.  Depending on the number of members who volunteer to participate, the hope is that even more kids will get a chance to spend a few hours of learning about Narragansett Bay; experiencing the thrill of catching a fish; and being aboard a boat on salt water. All members, boats and kids will arrive at Brewers Greenwich Bay Marina (Warwick, RI) by 8:00 A.M. and fishing will take place in Greenwich Bay from 9:00 to 11:30 A.M. Then everyone returns to the marina for a cookout at noon! All members are urged to participate!
It doesn't matter if your boat can carry only one child and a chaperone,
or if you can handle 4 or 5 youngsters, we still need you’re help!Each boat will need at least one person to act as a "mate" to watch the children, control lures, taking fish off hooks, etc., so this means that members who don't have a boat will also be needed. We also need volunteers to help with the cooking back at the marina after the fishing is done.  Many of these kids have never fished, and most have never experienced being on a boat. All the children will be in the 7-13 year old age group and will be "hand picked" and carefully matched in terms of behavior and compatibility for an event such as this. 
All children will have signed permission slips, and the organizations
involved will provide transportation to and from the marina.Everything is taken care of! All we need is for YOU to sign up and promise to help out! It’ll be an experience you’ll always remember! To sign up as a boater, non-boater, shore volunteer
