DAVID FEWSTER

Dave Fewster If you haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting my good friend, Dave Fewster, you are really missing out on something.  Dave is one of the founding fathers of the R.I.S.A.A., and as the club's secretary, he has worked very dilligently at that demanding position.  Dave is totally dedicated to making the R.I.S.A.A. the premier fishing club in Rhode Island, and his efforts appear to be paying off.

Dave is the consumate fisherman both on and off the water.  A highly skilled angler, Dave can target any species from flounder to giant bluefin tuna.  A former West Bay Angler, Dave has taken first place awards in striped bass, bluefish, tautog, scup, bonito, yellowfin and sharks.  He has taken bass up to 36 lbs. from the shore, and surf fishing is a specialty.  Dave knows how to "read the water" and fish the tide as well as any fisherman I know.  His enthusiasm for the sport is unparalled.

I remember the day we were chunking off Pt. Judith Light and Dave landed a 30 lb bass.  Can you imagine being out there with a guy who's jumping up and down in the cockpit yelling at the his lungs, "That's a 30 pound fish!  That's a 30 pound fish!"

Dave's passion for fishing dosen't end after a day of fishing hard on the water or in the surf.  He is very active in issues concerning the regulation of commercial and recreational fisheries.  His knowledge of these issues makes him an invaluable asset to my Legislative Committee as he has many contacts with people in the know.  He cares deeply about the state of the present stocks of all species of fish, and has been known to really "bang heads" with the commercial guys.  If you really want to get him riled up, start talking about a topic like commercial longlinging.

If I'm making this guy out to be one of those serious types who dosen't know how to laugh and have fun, then think twice. Dave has a great sense of humor and an easy-going temperment - for the most part.  A practical joker who likes to leave funny messages on your answering machine, this single guy from West Warwick can be a real thrill to be around.  I guess that after working with the public all day as a technicial for Sears, Dave has learned to maintain a certain level of insanity!

Skilled angler, concerned conservationist, great friend - these are some of the many qualities that make Dave Fewster worth having around, and fortunately for the R.I.S.A.A., it looks like he's going to be around for a long time!
